A walking trail which makes it possible to walk from Chungmuro Station to Namsan Mountain has been built. The access to this trail is located behind Namsan Residence Hall.
This trail is constructed by using some land from Dongguk University’s property as a public rest area. The back side of Namsan Residence Hall has easy accessibility to Namsan Mountain, but it had been surrounded only by trees. Therefore, Jung-gu planned to build this trail in order to change this neglected spaces into useful facilities for residents.
Before this walking trail, residents used a narrow path through the forest to go to Namsan Park. However, now, residents can use a pleasant trail and a rest area on their way to Namsan Park. The uneven ground has been transformed into an approach path made up of stairs. LED security lights were also installed, so that the residents can use this trail safely at night. This formation of walking trail and a rest area for residents was initiated by the Greenspace Use Contact established between Dongguk University and Jung-gu.
The Greenspace Use Contract is a program where contracts between a local autonomous government and a land owner in the city are created to help expand parks and green spaces in the city. This contract is usually achieved to contribute to public interests. Thanks to this contract, the walking trail was able to be built behind Namsan Residence Hall, which is on the private property of Dongguk University.
