On August 10th, at 1:00 P.M., the General Student Council (GSC) held a press conference opposing the “Lifelong Education College Support Project” at Paljungdo. They maintained the withdrawl of ‘Lifelong Education College Support Project’ for the school's rough-and-ready administration and progress without communication. Also, they claimed that school authority must guarantee democratic school management.
In the press conference, representatives of each college participated and commented their ideas. The first main point of those ideas was that Dongguk University has been propelling the project without accommodating students’ opinion. In this regard, Yoon Yeong-ji, the chairperson of the College of the Arts, said, “In the College of the Arts Student Council, we experienced the reorganization of the school system with school’s dogmatic decision and it caused several problems. So it will also cause negative results to carry out the project without accepting students’ thoughts.”
The second main point was that Dongguk University has been trying to enforce the project without enough time, and that school authority will select students with incomplete curriculum and faculty. Jo Seung-woo, the vice chairperson of the GSC said, “I am curious who would understand such plan of this Lifelong Education College Support Project which has only gone through one semester to construct infrastructures. I would be sorry about the non-equipped environment to the future freshmen of the Lifelong Education College.”
In the end of the press conference, the GSC encouraged students to participate in people’s assembly that will persist until August 13th. The event will provide a seat of communication between the GSC and the general students.
