At the beginning of campaign, there was a press conference where president Oh Young-kyo gave a statement outlining the school position. The ad hoc committee for the law school said "Balance in religion is as important as balance in region." They continued "Other universities representing other religions are all sanctioned at least one per a religion but Buddhism. So it's very regretful that DGU, founded by Buddhism, was excluded for law school. Since then, the campaign has been demonstrating Buddhist resentment through posted placards on every temples which state the right to have a law school. A petition for the standard of selection registered by president Oh Young-kyo, will also be sent to the Prime Minister, Ministry of Education&Science Technology, the National Assembly and Lee Myung-Bak, the president of Korea. Signatures can be submitted on-line at the Buddhist main sites such as the Jogye Order's , DGU'S homepage or the newspaper of Buddhism homepage.
This campaign is important in that it shows DGU's continuous interest and effort to establish a law school. Besides, this campaign is unusual for both its size and participation. It is expected to succeed in their quest for a law school. 'One Million Signature Campaign of Buddhism' will be continued until August 31, the last date for the permission of law school.
