The movie <Hansan: Rising Dragon> is the next film released eight years after Kim Han-min, who directed <Myeongnyang>, which revitalized the theater in 2014, and the box office trend of Admiral Yi Sun-shin’s second story is unusual. The reputation of general Yi Sun-shin and the ability of director Kim Han-min have been mainly occupying the theater district. The prequel <Myeongnyang> deals with the Battle of Myeongnyang in 1597, which had a famous line that touched the hearts of the whole nation, "I still have 12 ships left." On the other hand, the newly released <Hansan: Rising Dragon> dealt with the war situation in 1592, five years earlier than the battle of Myeongnyang, and showed the Japanese army landing in Busanpo and moving northward.
Unlike during <Myeongnyang>, director Kim Han-min did not actually float Panokseon and Turtle Ship to the South Sea, but perfectly implemented the naval battle of that time with Chromaki’s Computer Graphics(CG). Based on historical facts, it was able to complete the best production by working with the best staff in Chungmuro to vividly embody the cinematic imagination. In particular, the sea battle site without water, which was a challenge, was essential to simulate all necessary matters for filming and the filming process in advance. Technologies such as Pre-Visualization, which are state-of-the-art shooting systems, and Virtual Production played a big part. As waves and winds from the sea are the most difficult features to create CGs of the actual natural environment, all factors that affect organisms have been thoroughly calculated to create a feeling close to real water, such as the weight of ships in the water and the speed of bubbles moving.
In addition, the battle of Hansan paid attention to details of "clothes" and "art" to complete the fateful confrontation between the Joseon army and the Japanese army in that the battle of Hansan is not just a fight to protect the country against aggression. The completeness of <Hansan: Rising Dragon> was enhanced by adding elements that could save cinematic fun as well as based on actual historical evidence.
In addition to various cinematic devices, actors such as actors Ahn Sung-ki, Son Hyun-joo, Kim Sung-kyun, Kim Hyang-ki, Ok Taekyeon, and Gong Myung appeared in the movie <Hansan: Rising Dragon>, giving off an aura as if audiences were watching a real battle.
Even though it was a movie dealing with historical facts and a fixed ending, we could feel the overwhelming feeling throughout the movie. As Admiral Yi Sun-shin says, everyone united to win, and the fact that such a victory led to a continuous victory in the naval battle may attract greater sympathy. If you want to feel the overwhelming victory of ancestors who risked their lives for the country, the Dongguk Post recommends watching the movie <Hansan: Rising Dragon>.
