University students can enjoy discount benefits in various fields such as cafes, restaurants, and online lecture sites. However, the process of getting the discount was a little cumbersome. Lee, a junior of Dongguk University, said, “It was inconvenient to get discounts for university students because each company required different authentication methods such as a student ID card or proof of enrollment. In addition, there were no media to give information about discounts for university students, so I had to search for it myself to get a discount. I even bought something without knowing that I could get a discount.” However, in February 2021, the General Student Council (GSC) began implementing the D-Membership system to reduce such inconveniences for Donggukians.

   D-Membership is a system that allows any student of Dongguk University to get an immediate discount if they show their student ID cards. It was very difficult for students to get practical benefits because the existing methods and benefits of receiving discounts were different from each company. To complement this, D-Membership system unified the discount method to just showing student ID cards. The GSC implemented this system in order to establish a uniformity and systematicity of the affiliation through consistent means of identification such as student ID card.

   There are many ways to know which stores participate in D-Membership. The first one is to check the D-Membership promotional materials. If there are stand-type or sticker-type promotional materials inside or outside the store, the discount for Dongguk University students is available. In addition, you can find information through Social Network Service(SNS) of the GSC. If you check SNS such as Instagram and Facebook, you can easily find out where D-Membership affiliated stores are and what kind of benefits you can receive. An example of a D-Membership affiliated store is “Evin’s Coffee Story,” a cafe located in Chungmuro. If students present student ID card of Dongguk University, they can enjoy Americano and wine at a discounted price. 

   Lee also said, “I think D-Membership is a very good system that reduces student’s inconveniences. From 2021, I will be able to enjoy the benefits for university students more easily with D-Membership. Now it has not been long since D-Membership was created, but if it becomes more active in the future, many students of Dongguk University will be able to enjoy a very convenient university life. I hope many students are interested in D-Membership system so that we can get discounts from more companies.”
