Kkumkkiri Festival, a spring festival of Dongguk University, was held from May 23rd to 25th. Various booths which sold foods and products were run by students. Also, several enterprises including Drinkat and Red Bull operated their own booths and promoted themselves. In addition, food truck zone, “Meok-eul Manhae,” was arranged in Manhae Plaza during all the festival days. Students could enjoy diverse foods such as Takoyaki and Chicken Skewers in the zone.
Compared to the festival of last year, interesting events were introduced in the festival. As an example, photo zone “Kkum,Teul” was newly made in the Main Stadium. Students could take pictures in it with different kinds of eight themes such as “Sunshine,” “Picnic,” and “Sky.” Park So-yeong (Freshman, Division of Buddihist Studies), who took a photo at the “Picnic” zone, said, “Recently, photo zone booths are popular in many places such as restaurants and cafes. I think the General Student Council (GSC) caught the trend and reflected it in this festival. Many students who like to take pictures will have a nice time by experiencing this.”
In addition, the steep path which connect Haklim Hall and Paljeongdo, also called “Heol-ddeok Slope,” was named as “Wish Slope” during the festival. Students wrote down their wishes on the paper and tied them to the balustrade of the slope. Kim Jung-do, the Chairperson of the GSC, said, “There were several changes in this festival. For example, the name of festival was changed from ‘Daedong-jae’ to ‘Baeksang Daedong-jae.’ Also, a variety of events were run such as personal color test, random game contest, and playing hide-and-seek with the Chairperson of the GSC of Dongguk University Gyeongju Campus.”
The line-up of performance became diverse, too. On 24th and 25th, nine singers performed in the Main Stadium. On 24th, Seok Min-a, Microdot, Punch, Kisum, and Highlight were on the stage. On 25th, Cherry Coke, Chung-ha, Bolppalgan4 and PSY performed. Especially, PSY’s performance was a grand finale of the festival performance. As huge number of students and visitors gathered, the main stadium was full. About 20 thousand audiences shined flash lights and made stars with their cell phone to show that they are enjoying the stages. They sang and jumped together for about one hour and a half. Kim Soo-hyun (Sophomore, North Korean Studies Major) said, “The line-up of this festival was more awesome than I expected. Especially, the performance of PSY was impressing. He said, ‘To be exhausted is to lose.’ His passion of the stage was incredible.”
