The General Student Council (GSC) held a “General Student Representatives’ Meeting” at Choheodang Seminar Room on September 4th, at 6:30 P.M. The GSC gathered the representatives of each college and department to discuss about abolition of entrance fee and expenditures for experimentation.
The meeting started with 72 participants, which exceed half of the total number of 101 people. It can be proceeded when more than half of the total number of people participate. On the first part of the meeting, Yoon kwang-ho, chairperson of the Student Council of the College of Education, and Seo Eun-sam, vice chairperson of the Student Council of Department of Advertising and Public Relations, raised a question about the legitimacy of the revision of the rules, which the GSC revised by themselves. However, this agenda was rejected. After that, “Discussion about Privilege of GSC’s Scholarship” was added and became the first item, and “resignation of President Han (Bogwang)” was also added.
Kim Jeong-min, the chairperson of the GSC, reported that the GSC’s activities they have done so far, the details of expenditures, and plans of the council. Then, the participants freely asked questions about the contents and requested what they needed. Yoon Yeong-ji, the vice chairperson of the GSC, added, “We are also planning to build streetlights on the stairs beside Hyehwa Hall. This place is very dark at night so streetlights are needed.”
Then, The participants of the meeting dealt with the first issue, “Discussion about Privilege of GSC’s Scholarship.” Before the day of the meeting, “Dongguk Magazine,” the independent student media body, posted article on Facebook. The contents were that some executives of the GSC visited America by educational expenditures for the school during the summer vacation. Moreover, after that day, other article related the issue was posted by “Apdamhwa,” which is also independent student media organization. Chairperson Kim criticized the “Dongguk Magazine” and He said, “The visit was possible because of external scholarship, not scholarship form the school. Also, I was told the trip will be go along on this February so this is not related to the GSC and I am innocent.” “Apdamhwa,” “Dongguk Magazine,” and all of the participants had a controversy of the issue until 11:46 P.M. The meeting was over at 11:50 P.M.
The additional meeting started from 12:05 A.M. The remaining participants decided that the fact-finding committee of the scholarship issue should be composed and if allowed, related people such as in “Dongguk Magazine” and “Apdamhwa.” They also approved the requisition of abolishing entrance fee.
