English Buddhist Ceremony with Peter Beck

An English Buddhist Ceremony is held every Wednesday of the last week of each month. For September, on 25th, Peter M. Beck, the Korean Representative for the San-Francisco based Asia Foundation, came to Jeonggakwon at 6:00p.m. The Asia Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that works for the development of peaceful, prosperous, and open Asia-Pacific region. The lecture was progressed into two sessions. In the first session, he talked about how he got to know Buddhism, how he came to Korea, and his thoughts on Buddhism. In the lecture, he mentioned many great things about Buddhism, such as the harmony with nature, open-mindedness, and mildness. The second part of lecture was Q&A session. He asked questions on the similarities and differences among connection, coincidence, and destiny, students’ favorite temple, and the more important language to learn Buddhism between Sanskrit and Chinese. Towards the end, he said, “Buddhism gives naturalness and comfort on human beings and is more generous compared to other religions.” At last he added that Buddhism should consider how to practically apply its dogma to a rapid changing society.
