   From September 28th to 30th, the three-day autumn festival, "Daedongje," which sparkled with the participation of students, was successfully completed. Held for the first time in three years due to COVID-19, the quiet campus was full of students enjoying various events in booths throughout the school. At the concert stage set up in the grand stadium, performances by various clubs were also held. The Dongguk Post captured the memories of the Daedongje in the fall of 2022, filled with students’ passion.

Donggukians Feel the heat of Daedongje

   At the initiative of the Student Council's Emergency Response Committee and the Festival Planning Group, the Daedongje was held under the theme of "Let us Get Together." The theme was conceived in the sense of enjoying the festival, which will resume after COVID-19. Although there were many voices of concern in that the Daedongje plan was prepared with an emergency committee system instead of a student council, it proceeded safely and successfully thanks to the emergency committee that worked hard for the students’ enjoyment.

   Various events were held at the Daedongje, including booth operations, central club planning performances, and celebrity celebration stages. Many events were held at Manhae Square where students could enjoy the festival, including flea markets, entertainment games, and food trucks. Students fully enjoyed the festival with various games and delicious food. Blinding dates prepared by the Student Council’s Emergency Response Committee were also very popular. Blinding dates attracted the attention of many students by receiving pre-orders even before the festival. The event was held in a way that matched the other person according to their likes after talking with the other person, leaving good memories for students who wants to get opportunity that might meet decent fellow. In addition, a celebratory performance, which can be considered as the flower of Daedongje, was held within an energetic atmosphere. On Thursday, 29th, there were a club festival and a Disc Jockey (DJ) performance. Contrary to the usual hard-working appearance at school, the appearance of the students showing off their charms on the stage were passionate and gave other students great pleasure. On 30th, the performance of the Song Festival and Baeksang cheering squad was held. At the Song Festival, students performed well as they were selected through outstanding preliminary rounds, and the Baeksang cheering squad also showed the dignity of our school cheering squad. Moreover, the celebrity celebration performance that many students waited for ended with a loud shout. Many artists, including ITZY, Zico, 10CM, and Ailee, and so on, heated up the Daedongje. As it was a stage that had been waiting with great expectations since the lineup came up, artists and students enjoyed the performance as one. Even in the festival three years after COVID-19, the students’ enthusiasm could not cool down, and after the performance, all the compatriots remained as one and continued the atmosphere of the festival.

Donggukians came together at Daedongje

   Daedongje was held for the first time in three years since COVID-19. The festival had high expectations for both freshman and senior students. Everyone could not hide their excitement at the news that the Daedongje, which had been suspended, would resume from this year.

   The freshmen who entered school this year, enjoyed the first festival more excited than anyone else. It was not until this year that many events such as school trips and festivals were suspended due to COVID-19 in high school. Jeong Yu-jeong (Business Administration 22) expressed her feelings that she enjoyed the festival with excitement since it was her first festival after entering the university. She had high expectations for the bar of each department she saw in the web drama, so that she could enjoy a romance. In addition, she said that through the DJ party held at Manhae Square, everyone could dance, play, and see the noisy campus. In addition, there were many things to see and enjoy, such as a Buddhist event booth that can only be seen at Dongguk University and a mini lantern making experience event, so it was more meaningful for all her colleagues and seniors who seemed to enjoy it. It became an unforgettable memory for new students, and finally, she thanked the festival planning team and everyone for preparing for the festival.

   On the other hand, there are students who have been unpleasant about the festival for three years. There are the upper grades who have not experienced face-to-face events after the 2019 festival. Students who were graduating without enjoying proper campus life were greatly disappointed, so we could see them enjoying the festival more properly. Lee Dong-huey (Business Administration 19) expressed his feelings that the atmosphere of the school, which we usually attended and just studied in class, changed to a festive atmosphere, making the 2022 Daedongje a special experience for all students. Although there was no big difference from the festival before COVID-19, there were more people than ever before, and it was good to be able to resolve the regret of not enjoying the festival for three years. As the president of the student council of the Business Administration Department, he said that it was an opportunity to understand each other and become closer together while working at a bar without fully enjoying the festival. While, as a student of Dongguk University, it was good to see performances of celebrities in the student zone, and it was happy to meet friends who he did not meet often due to COVID-19. While preparing the bar, he felt that everything we took for granted was not natural and thanked everyone who helped us for the festival. Lastly, he expressed his feelings by thanking the student council of the Business Administration Department for working hard together despite many difficulties.

   The three-day festival consisted of the preparation of the students from beginning to end. Due to the absence of the student council, the festival was held thanks to the students who worked hard for several months in the emergency committees. Ahn Hyun-min (Economics 17), the chairman of the emergency committee, said that hosting the festival under the emergency committee system was the most difficult. As the preparation period for the festival overlaps with the regular audit period, there were many time, and conflicts with the work of the general assembly. In short, there were many difficulties in the preparation process. Despite this situation, since it is the first festival in three years, it will be an opportunity for students to get out of their boring school life and have fun in school again. In this festival, a mini-lighting penlight making booth and hanging a wish paper event were held. It was a time for students from other schools to participate in the event and feel the charm of Dongguk University. While preparing for the festival, the emergency committee realized that the past festivals never took place easily, and based on the experience they enjoyed this year, it would be nice for all members of Dongguk University to decorate the festival in the future.

   After three years of temporary suspension of events due to COVID-19, Daedongje, which was filled with students’ enthusiasm, was successfully completed. As it was the first festival in a long time, students were busy walking around and enjoying the campus for three days during the festival. Daedongje was connected to the day and night of the school, revitalizing the students. The Dongguk Post hopes it will be remembered as a happy memory for  many students, and that Daedongje  will revitalized students’ college lives.
