Carnival of Dogs and Pigs Held with the GSC Taking Part

   On August 5th, 2016, at 7:00 P.M, the General Student Council (GSC) and Moon-lae-dang held “Carnival of Dogs and Pigs” in front of Bosingak. Its purpose was to convey the 99 percents’ (the public that are described as dogs and pigs by a high-ranking official recently) thoughts and resentment to the one percent of people by singing and dancing. Choi Gwang-baek, the former president of the GSC, hosted the event and it was made up of three parts, musical performances, comments about overusing upper classes’ power, and citizen’s participation.

   During the “Carnival of Dogs and Pigs”, four teams performed : “Jae-mi-bono”, Cho Yoon-gi, a senior student of Political Science and Diplomacy major, “Pena Flamenca el Oriente”, and “ART-O”, a social company. “Jae-mi-bono” showed a cappella performance and Cho sang songs of “Deul-gook-hwa” and “Gang-san-ae”. “Pena Flamenca el Oriente” performed flamenco, which was consisted of playing instrument and dancing, and “ART-O” showed African music. They expressed 99 percent’s sorrow through music.

   Between each performances, there were times for comments. First of all, Shin Jeong-wook, the chairperson of the General Student Council of Graduate School, and Cho Yoon-gi recited the declaration, of which the title was “We 99 percents deny life of being raised and tolerating.”

   Then, three people addressed their opinion about overusing one percent’s power. Shin Jeong-wook said, “Matters in the Dongguk University are happening because the one percent violates 99 percents’ rights,” and added, “I was upset to read news about contracting MOU between Dongguk University and National Human Right Committee with positive assessment of Dongguk University’s state of keeping human rights.” In addition, Heo Woo-jin showed his determination to fight against one percent’s power.

    Citizens could participate in the event, too. In the beginning, people made their own doodles about overusing high classes' power on the board. In the end, people played various percussions together, jumping and moving, while “ART-O” was performing. They also floated balloons to the sky with thoughts of what they wish.
