The General Student Council (GSC) held a press conference demanding the withdrawal of Kim Geon-jung, the former vice president of the GSC's suspension and the normalization of Dongguk University in front of Bosingak, on August 4th at 11:00 A.M. with Yongjusa Temple Buddhist Emergency Measure Committee, Professor Association of Dongguk, the GSC of Dongguk Graduate University, The Secular Buddist Association for Righteousness, Independence and Peaceful Unification Practice Association, Korean Irregular Professor Labor Union, and Buddhist Solidarity for Reform.
An Dre, the chairperson of the GSC, began the event by mentioning the reason why a press conference was needed. Then, the participants took turns remarking their opinions about Kim’s suspension, plagiarism of President Han Tae-sik (Bogwang) and the intervention of Jogye order. “The current issues in Dongguk University imply that Jogye order is trying to paralyze sound intelligence and critical thinking in campus,” said Song Joo-myung, the chairperson of Professor Association of Dongguk University.
Professor Han Man-Soo from Korean Language and Literature and Creative Writing Major, who was recently reinstated to school, also attended the conference and stated, "what the school authorities are doing cannot be considered as Buddha’s lesson. Buddha would rather count us, who are fighting against the school, as his true disciples.”
Lastly, Kim Geon-Jung made his point that he does not regret destroying the name list. “I destroyed the name list in order to relieve the anxiety of the students who enrolled in the Students’ General Meeting.” “I thought it was my duty, as the vice chairperson of the former GSC, to protect students from any possible risk,” He added.
