On April 23th, delegates from Thailand visited Dongguk University(DU) and donated a 40-volume sutra in Romanized Pali, known throughout the international Buddhist community as World Tipitaka. The Damma Society of Thailand, working under the aegis of the Thai royal family, spent six years on the Romanization of this important text. These volumes are now considered as valuable material for the furthering of southern Buddhism research.

It is significant that DU was chosen as custodian of World Tipitaka in Korea. It is also expected that this donation will boost a Buddhist interchange between Thailand and Korea.

The president of DU, Oh Young-kyo, expressed his sincere gratitude to Thailand’s royal family for this gift. He said: “Through this donation, I hope that Korea and Thailand can work together on the development of Buddhist study.”
