As a French exchange student in South Korea, I have had the privilege of experiencing summer in both captivating countries. This opportunity has allowed me to compare the unique aspects of this warm and exploratory season between my native country France and the welcoming land that has hosted me. Here is a glimpse into the contrasts and similarities that characterize summer in France and South Korea.

Summer Breaks:

In France, summer goes hand in hand with extended vacations. Schools close, families gather and the beaches come alive. It is a time when the French enjoy the sun, swimming, and getaways to the beautiful regions of the country. The French Riviera, Brittany, and the Alps-each of these destinations offers distinct experiences. In South Korea, summer is also a vacation, but with a slightly different approach. Students eagerly await this summer break, not only to rest but also to continue learning, exploring and enriching themselves. Family trips are popular, and people here have the chance to visit incredible places like Jeju Island, Gangwon Province, and the vibrant city of Busan.

Summer Activities:

In France, summer is synonymous with festivals. music, theater, art-every town has its summer event that draws crowds. I have had the chance to attend outdoor concerts, participate in cultural events, and experience the renowned Avignon Festival, which were unforgettable experiences. In South Korea, summer is marked equally by vibrant festivals, but with a unique cultural touch. I had the opportunity to participate in the traditional Dano festival, a celebration of the harvest, which gave me a deeper understanding of Korean family values. The spectacular fireworks displays are also a summer tradition here, lighting up the summer nights.

Culinary Pleasures:

Summer in France means dining on terraces, having picnics in parks, and exploring fresh produce markets. Fresh salads, French pastry delights, and artisanal ice cream are staples. Every meal feels like a culinary journey.

In South Korea, summer brings a variety of refreshing dishes. Naengmyeon, with its cold noodles and cooling ingredients, is a delightful escape from the summer heat. Bingsu, those icy desserts with diverse flavors, are a true blessing on hot days.

In conclusion, summer in France and South Korea is a season of unique experiences. Each country has its own customs, traditions, and summer delights. It is an extraordinary opportunity to broaden your horizons, embark on new adventures, and create memories that will last a lifetime. As I continue my language exchange in Korea, I am grateful for these summer discoveries that have enriched me both linguistically and culturally.
