On November 14, Hong Suk-cheon, a celebrity who confessed his homosexuality in 2000, gave a lecture: "I listen to the voice within." This lecture was held in the Haklim Auditorium at Dongguk University (DU) and it was supported by the Coed Career Development Center (CCDC). Many students came to listen to his lecture and they enjoyed the question and answer session in particular.
The lecture dealt with sexual identity. "I thought that I didn't belong in Korean society before I disclosed that I was gay," he said. He also said that "Coming-out" was mental anguish at first, but he never regretted it because he escaped his false life of 30 years and experienced a true happiness. He asked students to reject the prejudicial notion that there are only two kinds of people: normal sexuality and abnormal sexuality. Moreover, he said, "We all have bisexual inclinations intrinsically. We just choose our own sex. So try to respect homosexuals and try to understand them."
Starting from Hong Suk-cheon's Gender Communication Lecture, there will be a series of lectures supported by CCDC.
