English and the newspaper have always been a part of my life as long as I can remember. As I grew up, I became a person who loves the English language and is interested in social issues, especially human rights. Naturally, I dreamed of becoming a person who works for human rights in United Nations. With this big dream, I entered Dongguk University, majoring in political science and diplomacy. During my freshmen year, I participated in lots of activities because various experiences are the most valuable things I can gain in my youth. The Dongguk Post is one of my crucial experiences in my youth. As I said before, I was always interested in English and social issues, so the Dongguk Post seemed the perfect activity for me. Also, I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to get closer to achieving my dream. So, I applied for the Dongguk Post without any hesitation when I first saw the cub reporter recruitment notice.
In my opinion, challenges and experiences shape everyone’s own life. The word “challenge” may seem a bit harsh, but I think it is the most wonderful word in our life. Because challenge means “try,” and without trying anything, nothing happens. Challenges make the result of experiences, which makes our lives richer. Being a reporter of the Dongguk Post was another challenge for me. Even though I applied for it without any hesitation, I was worried about the new world. I did not know anything about writing articles, even in English, and I had to work with new people. It was not easy to face a new world, but I tried. And now, I think the challenge of joining the Dongguk Post was a really valuable decision. It made my life colorful with full of experiences.
My first article was about the lives of exchange students, so I had to interview exchange students on our campus. It was very difficult for me to approach someone passing by and requesting an interview. I was too shy, and introverted, and even though I love English, I had some fear of speaking in English with foreigners. I was hesitating for more than an hour looking at people passing by on the Paljeongdo. Time passes, and I had to decide. Challenge, or give up? I took my steps and opened my mouth. “Hello, can you do me a favor?” Challenge! Once you start, you realize that it was not as difficult as you thought. I finished the interview and wrote an article successfully.
Working as a cub reporter, I learned many new things, and had various experiences. This is definitely the greatest opportunity in my youth. I was able to improve both my writing skills and English by working for the Dongguk Post. I met new people and they all became precious relationships to me. It also gave me a chance to rethink my career path and become more certain about my dream of working on the world stage. I am proud of my first challenge, applying for the Dongguk Post. As I live, there will be many challenges waiting for me on the path to achieving my dream. I will face it, try everything and make my own beautiful life just as I gained great experiences through the Dongguk Post. Challenge, then everything will happens
