Goodbye to My First Experience

  It feels like yesterday when I wrote my debut essay and pledged my future resolution. However, right now, I am writing my Swan Song. Time flies. Last year, I was just a freshman who was unfamiliar with everything. However, I am now a sophomore at Dongguk University and the editor-in-chief of the Dongguk Post. It seems like I adapted well. I think this is because most of my “first experiences” at Dongguk University came from the Dongguk Post.

   The Dongguk Post is the first club I joined at the university. This is the first place where I wrote a proper article, repeated meetings with other reporters, edited manuscripts, and struggled to check if my article is a “good article.” Also, this is the first place where I met seniors, friends, and juniors from Dongguk University. If I had not joined the Dongguk Post, I would have missed these first experiences, and never find out how valuable and precious they are.

   Of course, not all my first experiences here were beautiful. I remember the agony of preparing a new article when my original one was rejected. I stayed up all night three days in a row for the first time because I had to write my article while also doing my assignments and preparing for exams. As I became the editor-in-chief this year, I was under a lot of stress from the sense of responsibility and burden that I have never experienced before. In addition, I realized for the first time how difficult it is to be a leader who develops an organization while listening to everyone’s opinions. Looking back, it was a very hard and difficult time.

   Nevertheless, I do not regret joining the Dongguk Post. My first experiences in here, whether they were good or bad, eventually helped me grow up. Thanks to this, I have now learned more about the world and became a little more mature mentally. I believe that other reporters can grow up like me through various first experiences while developing the Dongguk Post. Although I am leaving, my first experiences here will always remain and help me. Now it is time to say goodbye. So long, the Dongguk Post. So long, my first experience.
