The Field Experience Program Provided by LINQ+ Became a Precious Experience to Donggukians

   LINQ+ hosted a field experience program of the planning and production of the play Les Misérables. It was held from July 23rd to August 14th, and composed of four sessions as follows: viewing practice room, technical rehearsals, backstage tours and watching the play Les Misérables. Before and after each program, educations related to play and a special lecture by the director were also provided. Therefore, the students were able to ask questions about not only the production of Les Misérables but also the plays they were curious about. The field experience program was a precious experience that you cannot have anywhere else as the Seoul Arts Center only gave an opportunity to Dongguk University. In order to prevent COVID-19, the LINQ+ checked all students’ temperature, made them fill out the questionnaire about overseas travels and limited the number of people in some programs.

   Due to the inevitable change in the schedule of the Les Misérables team, the lighting memory was being carried out instead of technical rehearsals when Donggukians visited. The lighting memory is a system that stores each scene as a digital signal or stored data after setting the lighting brightness and configuration. A director off the stage communicated with other directors on the stage using a green flash light and directors on the stage marked with a tape to pinpoint where the actors will stand in the real play.

   Backstage tour was only available to the limited number of students. There was a “quick changing room,” which seemed to be a small dressing room, where the actors change their clothes when they are running out of time to get to the dressing room. Also, there were a lot of lightings and stage settings that showed a lot of people have been preparing hard for the performance. Going further inside, there were dressing rooms, which we could not look around due to the security problem.

   After experiencing four sessions that LINQ+ prepared, Donggukians watched the play Les Misérables. Watching the scenes that they saw at the lighting memory and the stage settings that they saw at the back stage tour, Donggukians could enjoy the play much more.
