On May 4th, Dongguk University had a ground-breaking ceremony for the Lotus Hall at 10 A.M. It took place in front of the Lee Hae-rang Theater. During the ceremony, the speeches by the board of the directors followed. President Han Tae-sik (Bogwang) stated, “The Lotus Hall could become the landmark of Seoul City. We are aiming to finish construction in two to three years.” The ground-breaking ceremony has proceeded for 40 minutes.

On the same day, the 112th Anniversary Ceremony came after the ground-breaking ceremony at the Main Auditorium of the Main Hall. It started with the singing performance by the alumni chorus. After the singing performance, the annual report by the chief of the Office of Planning took place. The annual report included contents such as the history of Dongguk University, the number of students in school, and the construction of Engineering Building 2, and the Namsan Residence Hall.
Right after the annual report, the introduction of visitors, and the speech of President Han ensued. President Han delivered a congratulatory speech. He started with gratifying the visitors. He added, “Dongguk University has shown great accomplishment in several media. Today is a special day. School faculties who have contributed to the development of school would be rewarded for their hard work.” He ended the speech by saying, “Looking back on the history of 112 years, I wish all of Donggukians and the party concerned to be in this together.”

While the speech of president Han was going on, the members of Midongchu (Dongguk Promotion Committee for the Future) had a silent protest. They argued that President Han should resign, due to his charge of embezzlement of educational expenditures for school case. After all the speeches by the chiefs of the board of directors and alumni, the award ceremony was held.
