Reflecting on last year, the number of articles about the youth’s political movements and policies was particularly significant in The Dongguk Post. It is because both Korea and the youth have met a lot of adversities and changes throughout the year.
We, the youth, have been isolated from the society and mistreated, since we were considered as a vulnerable group in terms of politics and society. We have been used as a means of getting elected by some politicians. Yet, we proved that we have the ability to bring change to society by lighting candles every weekend. We succeeded in showing that we have a lot of influences on our nation’s future by voting for the new president.
In May, Korea met a different president from a different party than the former president. 41.4 percent of the nation selected Moon Jae-in as the new president and believes he would fit well for Korea. The 19th president Moon Jae-in is solving the problems that we had, since the first day of his presidential term. He abolished the national history textbook which was controversial in respect of the objectivity of history; he made a directive to find the facts of Sewol ferry disaster. After he became the president of Korea, over 70 percent of the nation is supporting him. It means, over the half of the people think he is doing his job as a president right.
However, other than being satisfied and settling down to the current situation, we have to keep a strict watch on the new government so that we will be able to make a country where we want to live.
One hardship does not mean a failure, we still have many chances to overcome it and make differences. We have been doing well, and will be doing well. Do not give in. Like the sun that rises tomorrow morning, our lives will be the same.
