Since I entered Dongguk University, the school has always been busy with many issues, and this summer was no exception. Especially, the “Lifelong Education College Plan,” an on-going school project, is the most controversial issue on campus at the moment.
The original purpose of this plan is about offering education opportunities to those who started a career instead of entering university. However, many think the plan is pointless since most universities already have lifelong education centers. Regarding this, Donggukians started to express their thoughts on school community website by saying that the GSC has to hold a rally and lead other Donggukians to stop the school. Right after this, a post, blaming the slow response of the GSC, was posted by an anonymous writer. Ultimately, this caused a disunity of Donggukians.
Since then, many have pointed out on the school website that we all have to gather in front of the Main Hall and show our power to school. The GSC accepted the ideas and organized an assembly with people. Paradoxically, not that many Donggukians turned up for the assembly in reality.
Where have all the people on the internet gone to? Of course, some might think that the GSC could take all responsibility for action on our behalf and deliver our voices to the school. But this does not mean that we, all Donggukians, can just rely on the GSC, waiting for them to do something for us. This also means that we cannot just seat in front of the keyboard and blame them. If we really want to accomplish our goal, we have to be united tightly. Rather than arguing within ourselves, we should work together for a better Dongguk. I am looking forward to seeing a more mature school society and being one Donggukian.
