The Dongguk Autumn Festival was held from September 16th to 18th. The donation booth was operated by the volunteers of Chamsaram Volunteer who have signed to donate their bone marrow and organs. Many students have participated to help campaigns, and all the money was donated to an organization, which supports the patients who need organ transplant. Also, the Chamsaram Volunteer did a campaign to encourage people to sign up for donating bone marrow and organs on September 22nd. A faculty member of Chamsaram Volunteer said, “People are unwilling to promise organs for the organ donation. It is because people are scared of the connotation of the word ‘organ donation.’ However, to donate your organ, a donor is declared as brain-death and the donor’s family has to agree for the donation.” There were many campaigns at Paljeongdo to get people to promise to donate bone marrow and organs. In those campaigns, many students agreed to donate their bone marrow, whereas they were unwilling to donate their organs. Chamsaram Volunteers added, “We hope students to change their perspectives on organ donation and take action for patients who are waiting desperately for organs to be transplanted. It is difficult for patients to be matched with potential donors but it is much better to try than not to try.”
