From September 1st, the Information Management Team provides electronic student ID cards on mobile phones which will be combined with Dongguk University official application. Through this service, the previous Dongguk application, which was only used for searching academic calendar and grades, can be improved. Additionally, Dongguk University’s push management solution, also known as “Dongari,” is going to be combined with the application. Specifically, after September 1st, a newly designed home page, including all the functions of the previous one, will be introduced when users log into the school application with their uDrims IDs and passwords. A guideline page will pop up to show students how to make their new mobile student ID cards. After registration, a new “SID (Smart ID)” button will be shown at the bottom of the application. Students can use all functions of the old plastic card like entering Central Library by simply touching their phones. Furthermore, the Dongguk University application will offer a facility rental service. Students can lease lecture rooms and seminar rooms through the application. However, Manhae Square and the Main Stadium will be exceptions because of the high competition rate and the risk of server errors. There will be a lot of changes. Eui hee-jung, a section chief of the Information Management Team, said, “After introduction of new application, it will undergo about a month of troubleshooting period. Also more service will later be added gradually. The renewal of Central Library main gate on the 2nd floor and study room gate on the 4th floor is also a first step for the preparation of new mobile student ID card. The Central Library expects to solve both problems of illegal lending of plastic ID card and monopolizing study room seats. Yun Joo-young, a manager of the Central Library Academic Information Service Team, said, “When providing full support for internal users and regulating external users completely, mobile ID card can play a significant role.” There were many students who did not bring their ID card, so they had to enter library with writing their student number in front of the gate. Due to this, there were many unauthorized users from outside, causing lots of problems. She also added, “However, no one would not bring his or her smartphone.” A series of new services including the new official Dongguk application, mobile student ID card, and newly designed library gate are all parts of the university’s plan for smart campus construction. Those aim at having more than 90 percent of students to use mobile ID card just like at other universities.
