From July to August, the College of Arts propelled improvement of the school, doing two projects to help our school to look clean and modern - an expansion of the gallery and the small theater in the Munhwa Hall. The gallery is located in the basement in Munhwa Hall, and the place has played an important role in accommodating visitors. But the gallery looked dirty and old. Thus the College of Arts raised funds for construction through a computer lecture. The construction cost 15 million won. In fact, for a long time, the school had held exhibitions outside of Munhwa Hall building. Now, it is possible to hold exhibits inside and put up 20 additional exhibits inside building. In addition to the expansion, repainting the ceiling and the installation plywood was also completed, so if you go to the basement in Munhwa Hall, you will feel the place is much brighter than before. A few days ago, during the university entrance test, lots of school parents waited for their sons or daughters who were being interviewed and taking the fine arts performance test. At this time, this construction could be more appreciated, representing Dongguk University’s image, in the eyes of those future students and their parents.

Another change is to the expansion of the little theater in Munhwa Hall. The place was expanded after tearing down a corridor in the first basement of the building. Because the school did not have a small theater that could accommodate over 100 people, the school had used outside theaters before the construction. If the medium-sized theater is used, the university cannot afford the expenses, such as electric consumption. Therefore, this expansion construction will have two advantages - convenient usage and efficient expenses. The funds for this project were successfully raised, thanks to professors’ contributions and efforts. Also, this construction will be helpful for improving the environment of the College of Arts. One student said, “When I went to the gallery a few days ago, I felt the gallery had been completely changed. I was so surprised that I hardly recognized this place is the same that I knew. It is changed dramatically. I will go to the gallery more often from now on.”

The College of Arts is not the old building at all we knew before. It is good news to many Donggukians.
