The orientation by the School Authorities (SA) was held from the 21st to 23rd. On the first day, an advertisement for DU was shown on a large screen, lectures were given by alumni and club performances were staged in Chang-chung gymnasium.
President Song Suk-gu said, " hope all new students will learn the aggressive spirit of DU."
For the next two days, freshmen had department meetings and took a mock TOEIC test. And they finished registration for classes through intramural computers.
From the 24th to 26th, the orientation by the General Student Council (GSC) was held in Asan City, Chung-Cheong Province. In spite of the SA's opposition, GSC made a list of new students and prepared it separately without any help from the SA.
More than 2,900 new students and undergraduates participated in the orientation. And buses transporting DU students moved under police escort from the DU campus to the Asan City to guarantee safety.
Meanwhile, a memorial ceremony for the seven students who lost their lives in the Mishiryong bus accident was held in Haklim auditorium on February 17.
The 2001 orientation was held over six days and was divided into two parts. However, a freshmen said, "it was helpful but a little boring due to its long program for six days."
