From November 1st to 12th, the General Student Council (GSC) hosted the “Come out, let’s walk together! Trail Dongguk event.” This event, arranged to soothe the disappointment due to the prolonged non-face-to-face activities caused by COVID-19, has several purposes. Our school is located on Namsan Mountain, one of the symbols of Dongguk University. This event was conducted with a deep and good purpose to overcome the national crisis, regain national harmony, and revive Buddhist by realizing the spirit of “a kind of pilgrimage to a temple that historically stands out Buddhism, Buddhism law, and monk in the Buddhist world.”
Applications were available for up to 500 people on a first-come, first-served basis from 12 P.M. on Tuesday, October 26th. Undergraduate students, graduates, and even students on leave of absence were allowed to participate if they have 3,000 won for participation fee. By participating in this event, students could receive a departure kit and a completion kit. The departure kit includes Trail Dongguk commemorative tickets, beads, maps, water, snacks, and hand sanitizers. Also, the completion kit includes limited edition version of Dongguk University badges containing four seasons, passport cases engraved with Myeongjin Hall commemorative logo and mood light, transparent Dongguk bottles engraved with lotus flowers as Buddhist symbols, stickers, and printed photos. Only one photo per person can be printed from the photos in the walking course.
During the event, students were asked to visit the GSC’s office within the event period to receive the departure kit first, and then visit the observatory along the course marked on the map to take a proof shot. In addition, students should have to use the ticket to upload a proof shot of your visit on Instagram Story by tagging the GSC account with #Trail Dongguk. After visiting the GSC’s office along with Instagram story records, they could have received the completion kit. The course was in the order of the GSC᾽s office in Student Hall, the school certification spot of Paljeongdo, Jeonggakwon, Myeongjing Hall, or two of the places in front of the college they belong to, and the entrance to the trail next to Sanglokwon, and the Namsan Tower. The total course was about 2 kilometer, and the walking route was expected to take about 30 minutes. A descent course was an option.
Students should visit the course and receive the kit within the specificed days after application, and must visit the GSC’s office between 12 P.M. and 8 P.M., during the event period to receive the departure and completion kits. Students were also recommended to participate before sunset as much as possible for safety, to take the trash home and to follow the quarantine and safety rules.
In fact, according to Park, a student who participated in the Trail Dongguk event, it seemed to have the highest participation among the events prepared by the school, and it was exciting because the purpose was good and many souvenirs were provided. The GSC will hold various events in the future, so it would be good for students to participate with interest.
