In Dongguk University, the Kkumkkiri fall festival was held for four days from September 17th to 20th. The festival "Dongsim" was hosted by Dongguk University’s Festival Planning Team. Although there was a controversy whether to install the student zone where only Donggukians can enter, the festival was well received by many students as it provided many interesting things.
On the first day of the festival, there were many events on the Seo-ae Culture Street. There were many booths installed on the Seo-ae Culture Street for students to buy accessories and color the nails. Also, restaurants at Seo-ae Culture Street had 30 percent discount event. The Blue Night in Seo Ae-ro program was one of the unique events of the festival. In this program, many students participated to sing a song and shared their stories on the stage. In addition, there was “Mok Myuk singing competition” on the third day of the festival. The winner got the prize of money and the NEWVIA Bluetooth speakers. Similar to the spring festival, a lot of entertainers, including ‘Paul Kim,’ ‘Peakboy,’ ‘GB9 (Gil-gu Bong-gu)’ and ‘The Ade,’ and the school clubs like ‘ODC’ and ‘Eumsam’ performed, too. One of the best scenes of the festival was when the Red Velvet’s perfect performance brought the stage to an end in the enthusiastic responses of the students despite a heavy rain.
Meanwhile, during the festival, 108 photographs which could recall our childhood memories were attached at the “Heol-ddeok Slope.” Moreover, since the bars in the university were abolished last year, this year the self-drinking market system, which only allowed alcohol bought outside, was implemented at Manhae Plaza. Using the provided desks and chairs in Manhae Plaza was free and students could buy and eat food from food trucks.
In spite of the general festive atmosphere, during the preparation of the event, there was a disgraceful incident about student zone. The General Student Council (GSC) even posted a written apology about this incident. What happened?
At first, the GSC announced that they will not implement the student zone. This brought a great number of Donggukians’ blame. They sent abusive language and criticism to the Chairperson of GSC’s personal cell phone over the call and text messages. In response, the written apology statement was posted. According to the statement, there were two reasons that they could not implement the student zone. First, it was the financial reason of low recovery rate of student membership. Also, some students complained that they could not have enjoyed the performances with their friends from other universities because of the student zone. In the wake of the controversy among the students, The Chairperson Kim Jung-do announced that he would invest 3.5 million won in his private expense to conduct student zone. He also said in an interview, “It is okay to file complaints to me through my personal phone but I hope Donggukians will recognize I am a student like them. We should respect each other.” Eventually, the GSC set up the student zone with the stamp system.

Behaviors such as insulting the GSC and excessive criticism were inappropriate. Instead of those improper attitudes, there would have been a better way to go through this matter. Although there was a clash between the planning team and students during the preparation period, the problem was solved before it becomes worse situation. As such, the fall festival was successfully promoted by the participation of students.Donggkians are cheering the singer The Ade with flash light of the cell phone and enjoying the performance in the Main Stadium.
