Recently, several controversies about a man who entered the women’s restroom arose. On August 6th, there was a report that a man was found in a women’s rest room in Haklim Hall. After the report, some members of the General Student Council (GSC) and the office worker of school detected the restroom to find whether there was a hidden camera, but no camera was found. Also, they cooperated with the Human Rights Center to find the man’s personal information since the name and major he told at that moment turned out to be false.

   On August 8th, a man who entered the restroom was identified as a representative of the College of the Social Science. The man was Park Kyoung-gun, the Chairperson of the Emergency Planning Committee of the College of the Social Science. This truth was quite a shock to many Donggukians. Park Kyoung-gun posted an apology statement on his Facebook and explained the situation. According to the statement, he was on the way to go home after heavy drinking. However, he felt like throwing up and got to enter the women’s rest room. He insisted that he was too drunk to tell his right name and major and apologized about this situation.

   Actually, it was not the first time that a man was discovered in a women’s restroom. On May 26th, during the last spring festival, some members of the GSC and the Chairperson of the Emergency Planning Committee of the College of the Law caught a man in a women’s rest room in Law Building. They reported the case to Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and it took a month to finish the investigation of the case. According to the result by Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the man was a student of other university and drank alcohol with his friend during the Dongguk University festival. The man contended he was so drunk that he could not distinguish whether it is a women’s restroom or not. Since there was no proof to confirm the suspicion of installing the hidden camera, the investigation ended.

   With regard to these several incidents, the General Coed Student Council (GCSC) posted a statement on their Facebook page. They stated, “This year, the incidents about the men found in women’s restroom occurred twice. Actually, it is three times if we count an unofficial report. We had to face constant anxieties even though the notices informed that there was no hidden camera in restroom and the man has no suspicion.” They added, “It is necessarily needed to punish the suspect if the suspicion was confirmed. However, at the same time, we have to analyze the cause of the endless anxiety and consider how to deal with the sexual violence and crime.”
