On April 9th, the General Student Representatives’ Meeting was held at the Main Auditorium of the Main Hall. The General Student Council (GSC) held the meeting to discuss matters that concern students with the representatives of each college, department, and the General Coed Student Council (GCSC).
The meeting started with Kim Jung-do, the Chairperson of the GSC, asking about the online group chat poll. However, there were some objections about adopting the method, which led the representatives to have a vote on whether to use it or not. More than half of the representatives objected to it, which led them to raise their name cards to express their opinion.
After that, the Chairperson of the Student Council of the Political Science and Diplomacy Major had a question about the order of the meeting. He asserted one of the issues, which is giving the associations of the College of Law the right to vote, should be covered first. He added, “To check the presence of representatives, we must consider first whether the Chairperson of each association of the College of Law will be counted or not.” The Chairperson Kim accepted this offer, and then proceeded to give the right to vote to the associations of the college of Law. Out of 74 representatives, 51 of them gave favorable votes, which exceed the half of the total.
Before the reporting time of the GSC, some representatives asked about giving the right to speak to the Vice-Chairperson of the departments, general students, and the press. However, the Chairperson Kim explained, “In the case of the Vice-Chairperson of the department, we do offer the right to speak by my allowance. However, for the general students and the press, we do not offer the opportunity to speak, since it is a meeting for the General Student Representatives.” Then, the reporting time for the GSC has followed. Some representatives questioned about the GSC’s stance about the Cleaners Worker Issue. The Chairperson Kim added, “We had a talk with both. However, the stances of both were so different that it was hard to understand the case.” Consequently following the order of the meeting, the GSC had time to report their activities during the vacation and March. To explain these in detail, each chief of the units from the GSC has come up to the stage and had time to question freely about the activities.
As the third matter, direct election system had been covered. First of all, the “direct election system for the President” issue was decided by a majority of those present, which was 55 representatives. The second issue was about deciding the proportion of reflecting votes. With 54 of favorable votes, the second issue was passed. The third issue was regarding the inspection of the candidates of the president. Regarding this, 54 of them agreed to it. With reference to this issue, the bill of members of the Task Force team was passed with 50 of favorable votes.
With all three issues were passed, some representatives brought up some issues that they wanted to ask for. However, the meeting was closed due to lack of a quorum.
