On September 4th, the President Kim Hee-ok of Dongguk University met with the President Seol Do-yoon of ‘Seol and Company’ in Lotus Hall. This was to sign a business agreement to develop the school’s pool site into Korea’s biggest musical performance hall, with a planned capacity of 1,900 seats. ‘Seol and Company’ is one of the leading musical agencies in Korea and has planned and produced a number of performances. Such performances include The Phantom of Opera, EVITA, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Wicked, Priscilla, etc. The school is looking forward to this business opportunity since it is the first time for a university in Korea to cooperate with a private enterprise in the field of musical business. Also, Dongguk University and the company are planning together to activate interactions among professionals of performing arts, specialized cultural arts courses, and build community service programs. Especially for the specialized courses, the school and the company will be able to invite foreign famous actors and production staff for providing lectures. Moreover, they are going to enhance practical environmental trainings for students as well. This agreement will allow Dongguk University to become more famous in the field of Korea’s musical business. In addition, Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), one of the biggest and the most influential performance companies in England, has shown its interest in supporting this project. Such supports from and cooperation with leading companies will enable Dongguk University to become the center of musical performances among all the Korean universities.
