On November 1st, 2010, Dongguk University became the first Korean university to employ the use of ‘text message service’. This service is for students who have questions or complaints regarding school events or facilities. If students send a text message to: 010-3366-5572, the schools message service responds immediately.
“Thus far, if students had complaints or questions they had to search for phone numbers on online forums or post messages on the schools Q&A online bulletin board and wait for an update with a response,” said a representative of the schools CS Management team. He also stated that, “In order to eliminate this inconvenience we decided to start a text message service for students. Students just have to send a text message to 013-3366-5572 to have questions or complaints answered.”
This kind of service is common in public institutions and companies, but rare among universities. The CS Management team is expecting to expand this service to every part of administration on the campus of Dongguk in order to allow the school to take immediate action when facilities break down or any inconvenience suddenly occurs during class. This will ultimately allow students to study to the best of their ability by keeping the facilities running as smooth as possible.
The text message service will cost about 20 won per message, which means it will save students both time and money compared to a normal phone call. It will also help not only students, but also employees in that simple questions can be answered by text messages. This means the service will help to improve work efficiency.
The CS Management team leader, Park, Seo-jin said, “The text message service is for each individual. It not only solves problems for students but also makes students feel appreciated as individuals by helping to improve the overall learning environment at Dongguk.”
