On the evening of the 26th, in the year 2567 of the Buddhist calendar (2023), the Bonchuk lighting ceremony was held at Paljeongdo. Many students, staff, and notable figures such as Chief Monk and the President Yun Jae-woong attended the event. The ceremony was divided into two parts: in the first part, various performances such as Dongbul 108 Chorus, Son Jae-hyun Dance Company, Korean Traditional Music, and a lecture by scholar-seer Hakin Sunim were held, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere of the lighting ceremony. The lighting ceremony took place in the second part, alongside speeches from the university president and other notable guests. After the lighting ceremony, everyone participated in the traditional top-spinning game, going around the Paljeongdo Buddha statue individually in the order of corporate guests, university guests, monks, academic administrators, staff, and students. From now on, visitors can enjoy the beautiful lighting and decorations commemorating the year 2567 of the Buddhist calendar for a month. The Dongguk Post recommends visiting Paljeongdo to see the lighting before the ceremony ends and make a wish on a votive candle.
