Last year, the student council election was canceled because no candidates were running during the student council election. Students’ associations by department and colleges also failed to win the election. Therefore, late last month, a by-election was held to fill the vacancy. In this election, the Student Council is running, and many students are interested. However, the student council did not have a turnout of 50%, so the election was canceled. As face-to- face classes resumed, the importance of student autonomy in charge of overall school management increased. However, many students are inconvenienced by the poor turnout every year and the controversy that continues to arise during the election period. Every election period, representatives check and argue with each other, and you can see an ugly election.
Candidates shall run with responsibility as representatives of departments, colleges, and schools, and when elected, they shall operate with a heavy sense of responsibility and mission. However, the order of student society is being destroyed by some representatives who do not. What kind of student society do they want to create? Each delegate should keep each other in check and move toward development so that no one is unfair. As a representative who leads the school, I think we should maintain neutrality and lead the school fairly.
The same is true of newspapers. As a newspaper of Dongguk University, the Dongguk Post is also trying to deliver all the news the fastest, maintain neutrality, and capture everyone’s voices. We are making great efforts to deliver school issues and various information quickly and accurately so that no one is unfair. As such, we hope that those who have a great sense of responsibility as representatives of students will not lose their original intention and try to create a better student society.
