Two Years Have Passed So Quickly

   After publishing the 454th issue, my time as a student reporter of the Dongguk Post will come to an end. Looking back on the saved files of my articles for the previous issues, I could feel that two years passed so quickly. After finishing my military duty and getting back to school, with a passionate mind that I want to do something worthwhile during the time being a student, I applied for the student reporter of the Dongguk Post, somehow got selected, and have been working for two years so far.

   I enjoyed writing about subjects that I am interested in and sharing them with many people at first. However, as I moved up towards higher grades and the academic burden increased, writing an article sometimes felt like additional homework. Some of my friends said, “Why are you wasting your time writing something that has nothing to do with your study?” Those kinds of words made me feel regret and a sense of shame for myself. However, as of now, the experience of writing articles regularly has helped me a lot in many ways, such as organizing what I have studied or writing a readable report.

   Also, no matter what kind of job and field I get to work in the future, I think the experience of working as a student reporter will be a big help in my life. To complete one issue, I had to work with many people such as the interviewees and colleague reporters. I keenly felt that it was impossible to finish my work and make a meaningful result alone. Everything had to be done as a team and it will be applied to whatever I do in the future. I could learn a lot from my colleagues too. At first, I was surprised to look at other colleague reporters giving logical and creative feedback to each other after sharing the article proposals. I was amazed and envious of how fast they could make sharp and creative thoughts and speak it out confidently. I tried hard, but I am not sure that my feedback was helpful. Also, I want to thank my colleagues for working with a boring and stuffy person like me with no big complain.

   Showing off and handing out my student reporter business card to my friends and watching newspapers distributed on the news stands around the campus disappearing was a small fun for the monotonous life of an engineering student. Though my time as a student reporter is over, I will always be a supporting and cheering reader of the Dongguk Post.
