Recently, I read a book called “Factfulness,” which my high school teacher recommended to me. It tells the story about confirmation bias. I want to overcome my ignorance and have a balanced point of view by experiencing a wider world. At the same time, I have a desire to read a paradigm to make a better place and era. After entering university, I was concerned about my future and career path. I hope to work in the field of foreign relations, but I realized my ability is not enough to achieve it. Thus, I decided to challenge myself, solve the current tasks step by step and try to do my best day by day.
Becoming a reporter of the Dongguk Post was one giant leap for me. I recognized the importance of improving English skills to acquire a good knowledge of global issues. Without any hesitation, I applied to the Dongguk Post. It is undeniable that language is a way of understanding culture and it is organizing the world. Language could literally change the way of seeing the world. As I am using the English, I made myself available to understand English culture and the worldview that comes along with it. While I am writing down my article, I could meet a living perspective that takes me into foreign spaces.
I cannot forget the day when I first gave a presentation about my very first article. The topic was about future technology. I researched a lot, did my best, however I was faced with one big question. Okay, so what is the message I want to speak out through this article? From then, I decided to be more responsible with my article. This made me aim to write easy, brief and articulate. Nowadays, the media has a basic role as a provider of information necessary for debate. A healthy functioning democracy is predicated on the quality of information that people receive. Reporters have a duty to write a good article.
Moreover, having an interview with successful people in various fields broadened my horizons. They gave me lots of lessons. All the interviewees I met told me one common thing that I should think about myself deeper. As I am living in a globalized world, there is no limit with a time or place to do something. This inspires me; I started to interview myself, too. I started to write a diary again and constantly think about what I want to be in the future. By working as a cub reporter, I could set another new life plan; being a journalist, writing my own books and making special reports. Even if it is hard, I am going to dream, challenge, and finally achieve it.
There is no doubt that the Dongguk Post helps me to “quantum leap.” Quantum leap is a phenomenon in which the electrons that make up an atom do not jump when the energy is low, however leap at once when enough energy is given. It is defined as an abrupt change, a sudden increase, or a dramatic advance and used to explain the great leap beyond the limits. Growth is realized as if they explode all at once. I should keep changing and flowing, not losing my flexibility and constantly striving toward my goals. Time in the Dongguk Post will be a turning point to achieve my goals, be a helpful human being to bright shinely in the future.
