Campus life, where everything stopped due to COVID-19, has begun to pick up steam again. On May 2nd, the mandatory outdoor mask wearing system was also terminated, making it more realistic that campus life before COVID-19 is returning. As campus life recovered, many events resumed, such as events held between departments or clubs, and at the school level.
There are many activities that can be described as the flower of campus life, but I think the best of them is the “Campus Festival.” If there are students who study hard because they want to go to university where campus festivals are held, and everyone’s attention is focused on who celebrities will be invited to the campus festival, we can feel that students’ interest in the festival is considerable.
Dongguk University plans to hold a festival in the second semester, not in the first semester. On the other hand, there are also universities that have held festivals or are scheduled to hold festivals in the first semester. In addition, there are many students who are not enrolled in the school but go to enjoy festivals at other schools because their favorite singers perform. As such, there is a lot of interest from celebrities at the festival, and many students say that the quality of the festival is higher due to celebrities.
However, as each university appeared to raise the atmosphere with celebrities as before, the issue of high cost of casting celebrities came to the surface again. This is because a large budget will be invested in a one-off event. There are some concerns that festivals to enjoy university culture have become festivals for performances from some point on, but it is also thought that this is the appearance of university culture that has changed after suffering from COVID-19.
What is the right campus festival? Some may say that it is right to proceed around university culture, and others may say that it is right to provide a good performance to brighten the atmosphere of the festival. However, I finish the writing thinking that it is really our job to create a university that everyone can enjoy without being divided by such conflicting opinions.
