Recently, a member of a boy idol group emerged as a hot potato after it was revealed that he committed school violence during his school days. The entertainer raised the issue of hoarding music, which was like an elephant in the room, to the surface, and he was showed as a righteous celebrity. In addition, he built a favorable image by showing his smart and bright side in entertainment shows. That is why it was even more shocking, and is ridiculous to see that he has lived well for several years despite his past crimes. In effect, this case is not the first one of entertainer’s school violence. However, although the fact that they were involved in the school violence becomes well-known, the entertainers are still appearing on TV shows.
You might have at least once noticed that celebrities who committed drunk driving or sex crimes are living well, too. Even if the crime is revealed, after years or even months of self-reflection (which is also called a vacation), he/she returns to work again. There are two reasons why this process repeats constantly: Celebrities’ conscience and public’s indiscretion.
Let me start with the former. After ruining someone else’s life, he/she is returning to protect his or her petty body. Yes, criminals lack conscience. I am not saying that anyone who has done harm to others should live quietly without making money. Rather, I want criminals to have time for self-reflection genuinely and be rehabilitated and live a faithful life, expiating their sins. However, it is different for a career as a celebrity. They frequently appear on TV shows and have small and big influences on the public. The victims and their family have to watch the entertainer (that is the criminal) proudly appear on TV, smile, and make money casually. Does it make sense that a person who committed a crime does it? To speak of the latter, the public should not consume the contents or products the criminal has created. Imagine that he/ she was not a celebrity but a regular person. Do you want to spend your money and time on the products they make?
Celebrities who commit crimes even appear on entertainment shows that we often watch. Let’s be alert. Let’s not help them restore their images. If not, you are just being fooled by their acting.
