Last November 23th, on Saturday, there was the first alumnus homecoming day event for international students. The event was held in Sangrokwon, from 4:30 P.M. to 7:40 P.M.
The event was organized by the Center for Foreign Students. The purpose of the event is to strengthen ties between alumni of international students in Dongguk University. The event was also designed to boost the network of alumni of international students. Furthermore, it was first implemented with the aim of internalizing student management through alumni network management. The Center for Foreign Students planned to connect students and alumni to establish a foundation for the scholarship program.

This event was not only for alumni but also for alumni families, groups related to students and members of the school. They had a dinner in this event. Also, the event was hosted by two hosts, both of whom were Chinese. Several guests attended the event, including Yoon Sung-yee, the President of Dongguk University. Since hosts introduced guests, participants watched video letters from people who were unable to attend it because they were staying overseas. As a welcome message, the President Yoon Sung-yee said, “I know this is the first event related to international students, but thank you so much for hosting such a meaningful event.” He also talked about his school experience, encouraging international students to study hard and develop themselves like him. According to him, it is important to play hard when they play and study hard when they have to study. In particular, he praised the host’s fluent Korean skills and emphasized to international students the importance of learning the language of the country where they are studying. Furthermore, the President Yoon stressed the need for better relations between seniors and juniors among international students.
After the President’s speech, the alumni took a group shot with guests. In addition, Baeksang, a cheering squad also performed to celebrate the homecoming day event. Since this event was the first-time taking effect, it is expected to affect the formation of networks and maintenance of relations among alumni of international students. The atmosphere of the homecoming day event was very friendly with alumni who have not met in a long time. As the event was held for the first time this year, it is expected how the event will improve further in the future.
