Strangers From Hell / Lee Su-yeon

   Even if you are easily scared people, I highly recommend “Strangers From Hell.” Based on a highly popular webtoon “Strangers from Hell” tells the story of Yoon Jong-woo, which is an aspiring novelist and played by Im Si-wan. In the drama, he moves to Seoul and unexpectedly finds himself caught in a hell created by other people. The Casting is perfect and all the actors are amazingly good at acting. What is remarkable about “Strangers From Hell” is that it is “Cinematic drama,” which combines strengths of film and drama. That is, combination of film’s sharp direction with drama’s densed story.

   Moreover, since movie art director joined at space production, Eden Goshiwon could be created. This Goshiwon seems like the space where something terrible will happen right away. “Strangers from Hell” steadily strangles viewers making use of mental tension rather than visual cruel acts. People who get scared so easily like me can also watch this drama. Although this is first work of Im Si-wan after he is discharged upon completing his military service, his acting ability is amazing.

   Furthermore, all the other actors’ act are so great that viewers could easily imagine the atmosphere of Eden Goshiwon and confusion of Yoon Jong-Woo. Especially we should focus on remarkable change in acting style of Lee Dong-wook. He usually featured at melodramas. However, now he perfectly adapted to mystery genre and shows hair-raising cold charisma. Someone might hate this drama because of its cruelty. However, I highly recommend this drama since it is worth watching acctors’ amazing acting, great direction and suspenseful story.

Webtoon

Exchange Diary / Lee Da-young

   If you like a story that mixes what can happen and what cannot happen in real, naver webtoon “Excahnge Diary” will be one of your favorites. A main character of this webtoon is a female college student, Han Na-moo. Han Na-moo is in a car accident on her way to birthday party. When she comes to her sense, she wakes up from another person’s body.

   That another person is a high school student, Yoon Bang-ul. Han Na-moo decides to keep her current situation a secret and pretends to have lost memory after being misunderstood as amnesia. She goes to school with a friend who is kind to her. However she soon finds out that Yoon Bang-ul is a victim of school violence and that friend is perpetrator. The friend has fun about the fact that Yoon Bang-ul is amnesia so pretends to be kind. Between the stories, an exchange diary written by Yoon Bang-ul and other characters, and a diary written by her alone, give Han Na-moo clues.

   In addition to school violence stories, it is remarkable how she entered another person’s body and how the story’s time flows. Regarding these, it gives readers other interests. Also, in the beginning of the story, Han Na-moo, when she is in Yoon Bang-ul’s body, is told that she, real Han Na-moo’s body, is dead. However, in the middle of the story, she goes back to her own body. These mysteries are the attraction of this webtoon. Readers can deduce the story, enjoying webtoon.

   These days, people get vicarious satisfaction through anecdotes that cool down stuffy work and use the expression “drink of cider,” which is the meaning of aforementioned situation. Readers of this webtoon have the opinion that the adult main character, Han Na-moo will show “cider” avenge on the perpetrators of school violence. This webtoon is serialized now. So, deduce the story and experience the feeling of drinking cider!

Musical

PPALLAE: The Laundry / Cho Moon-kyung

   Musicals are often harder to think than movies, and we usually enjoy them on special days. One of the reasons for this is that musicals with a rich composition are usually quite expensive. However, I think musical “Laundry” is the best musical I have ever seen, and tickets are less than half of the price of a regular musical. Laundry is a musical about the lives of job seekers who came to Seoul from the countryside and foreign workers. The musical shows their lives and reminds Korean of the past when we probably had familiar relationship with neighbors and our efforts to make dreams come true. However, these are forgotten by modern people now. Considering this, the musical also has the advantage of having fun with the parents’    generation since it reminds the past time. It is good to see the emotions of sadness, anxiety, and love that can be shared by all generations through this musical.

   Furthermore, the biggest advantage of the musical is that the title song is so good. It is a song called “How pretty,” and it appears when Sollonggo who is the foreign worker in the musical, expresses his love for Na-young who is a test taker in the musical. Actually, in the musical they are neighbors. Listening to this song will make us think of the warm feelings we have forgotten.

   That is, there are various factors that make us concentrate on the musical. Furthermore, this musical induce us to remind days of our youth and our dreams. So, the Dongguk Post recommends people who are struggling to hold out in a competitive society to have a healing time, watching this musical.

Movie

UP / Kwon Min-jeong

   The movie we want to introduce is Disney Pixar animation, “Up”. The movie is focusing on an elderly explorer named Carl Fredricksen and a young boy named Russell. Carl who wanted to become an explorer, dreams of going to Paradise Falls with his wife, Ellie, who also dreamed of the same goal.

   However, Ellie pasts away and Carl makes up his mind to achieve their goal. By tying thousands of balloons to his house, where there are memories of Ellie, Carl sets out to fulfill his dream to complete the promise he made to Ellie.His little friend, Russell goes with him. However, their way to Paradise Falls is never smooth.

   They go through many crises, and they fell down at last.It is what Carl and Ellie had dreamed together was accomplished. On the other hand, Carl feels of futility about what he should do. Then, when Carl fell, Carl gets to read Ellies’ letter, and realizes that his Paradise Falls was not his only goal but it is what Ellie wanted him to do.

   So he goes back to the city with Russell and his dog. Also, he lives with a new wife just like Ellie’s hope. What this film is trying to say is that everyone’s courageous new challenges are always valuable and meaningful.

   Also, it says you to keep going even though you think you have already achieved all the goals, then your life will become more meaningful. Furthermore, there is a famous line from the film, “Today is a normal day, but it is the most precious time to go is forward to the future.” Like this line, The Dongguk Post hope everyone to live day by day for one’s ultimate goal without giving up. Since it is an animation, it can be seen lightly. However, it was an impressive film to me because it contains a profound lesson.
