For the last few days, it was proved that politician Kim Sung-tae’s daughter got a job from KT illegally. Starting from Kim, other cases of illegal employment from KT have been revealed that more than six people got a job even though they were not qualified. On Kim’s daughter case, Kim ignored original recruitment system. He submitted his daughter’s application offline not online. That is the core reason that he did an illegal action. After the media broadcasted and showed that the case was true, KT’s executive who had relationship with Kim entered the court to get investigation.
To ban this kind of cheating, Korean government started to conduct Blind employment system, which assures anonymity, in public company for years. It is a system to prevent illegal hiring and pursue equal rights for the recruiters. By hiding gender, level of education, and the job of recruiter’s parents, it could be a way to protect discrimination from the different status among recruiters made by social position. However, even today, we hardly can see the equal rights through this system. In everyday news, it is not that difficult to find people who get a job illegally. Most of their parents’ vocations are politicians, celebrities, or in high-ranking posts.
As the economic growth is getting slower, many young job seekers (especially in their 20s and 30s) cannot get good jobs as the company does not look for an employment. Because of that, many Korean job seekers have to take public official test to find fair, equal recruiting. In this environment, illegal recruiting is not that shocking but a depressing issue. Besides, we could hear the news that even public companies have done illegal employment for their interest.
In this background, Koreans can grow distrust to society, to government, to companies, and it would be bigger. Korean society is getting rigid as so called “middle class” people cannot go to higher place. Therefore, people’s stiffen neck cannot move to another side. From there, people start to hate each other because they do not know each other if they are not at the same social status. In this life, can we really feel fair and equal only from the fact that blind recruiting is running? What on earth is this place?
Are we sure that we live in a blind world? Yes, it might be true. However, we are living in a blind world that is making up celebrities and high classes’ corruption. Korea is the country where the “Blind Spot” exists. From this spot, people who are above the “common” status do not have to worry about money, happiness, living, and so on. In this tough world, we cannot gather around but just have to live respectively to live by ourselves. That could lead to society’s destruction. I do not want Korea to be destroyed. This is the place where we live. This is the time for Korea to get rid of the things, the unjust recruitment, and the society’s negative spot.
