Currently there is a new move in bookstores. As another marketing strategy, bookstores have transformed into a book cafe. Some users say that it is way better to have a bookstore as a book cafe, since there are relatively more new books than library. Also, this change might be good in that people can read books and exchange ideas freely with others, while enjoying a cup of coffee.
While this comfortable change takes place in our lives, it can also be a negative change. Why is that? Well, when some are reading books, they might fold over some pages or accidentally rip the page while flipping the page. This is not the only story of immoral people. In fact, according to the research on actual condition of publishers, over 20 percent of the books which are returned to the publishers. This numerical data is important due to the management system of damaged books of bookstores. Once the books are damaged and not able to be sold, those would be returned to the publishers and be discarded. This implies that those books will lose their value as books. The bookstores take no responsibility for the damaged books. In the perspective of publishers, this is increasingly a huge loss, since they are losing almost 20 percent of their earnings.
However, the bookstores argued officially that change could be another promotion effect since people will be intrigued to know the next story or plot. Since promotion is essential to grab readers, bookstores argue that although there could be loss in short run, this situation would be better off in the long run.
I wonder, would people who come to bookstores to read books without buying it be willing to buy next series of the books. Could this really be another extension of promotion effect? With this change, it seems that the borderline of a bookstore and a library has been blurred. The bookstores were the places to sell books and library is the place to let people read and borrow books freely. On the other hand, since people are also allowed to read books and grab a drink at the same time, is this time to come up with new definition of the bookstores?
