Some universities including Dongguk University claim a right that students can vote for the president. Midongchu (Dongguk Promotion Committee for the Future) demanded the dismissal of the president, who is a collusive embezzlement criminal, and direct election to the president that students want.
On June 1st, in front of the Main Hall, about 20 students gathered. Their demand to the directors was the dismissal of the current president and the security of the students’ right to vote. Koh Jae-chan (Freshman, North Korean Studies Major) said, “If Dongguk University does not consider the students as people that give money to school, Presidential Committee for University Development would dismiss the now President Han Tae-sik (Bogwang) and try to achieve university democratization.” The participants of the rally shared their ideas through free speaking session and wrote opinions on the dismissal of the president and the direct election system of the president. At the end of this rally, they read their opinions and the host gave the opinion request to school.
Midongchu demanded the right to vote for four years. Likewise, Chonbuk National University students demanded their right to vote for the president. And on May 29th, in Chonbuk National University faculty decided that students could elect the president.
