Congratulations on the 50th anniversary of The Dongguk Post, the only English media in Dongguk University.

The last days of the Post are the living history and records of Dongguk University as it has led the development of Dongguk University, striving to enhance students’ intellectual level and implement social justice. It contributed to enhancing the prestige of the school, expressing the spirit of the times with appropriate headlines, and Dongguk students’ passion for cultures and learning.

This is due to the fact that The Dongguk Post reporters brought realities to light in accordance with truth and conscience, never forgetting the call for reasonable argument, and honest writing over the past 50 years. This is also due to the fact that every written letter, word, and sentence is the fruit of the Post reporters’ deep thinking and introspection.

The Dongguk Post listened to the small voice of students. It published articles based on the information from scenes inside and outside of the school, and being of great help to foreign students in Korea as well as local students. Moreover, it collects various opinions from members of the school community to present the school the direction to go toward.

However, it is clear that due to internal and external tough conditions surrounding campus journalism, including rapidly changing social and media environments, increasingly fierce competition between universities, and growing individualism with a sense of community disappearing, the future of the school media is not favorable.

Nonetheless, The Dongguk Post should seek more innovative changes and development to create new order and values of campus journalism through various transformations without losing its purity as a school newspaper. This will ensure a bright future for the Post marking its 50th anniversary.

Once again, I congratulate on the 50th anniversary of The Dongguk Post, and hope from the bottom of my heart it will, as always, remain Dongguk University’s center of knowledge and information.
