A 'Culture Experience' program for international students was held on October 30th. This program is offered every semester by the Dongguk University Service Center for International Students to allow students to experience Korean cultures through visiting various popular sites. On this occasion, the students went to the COEX aquarium.
Any graduate of undergraduate international student studying at Dongguk University could apply for this program. Students who wished to join this program had to fill out the registeration form. On the program day, about 60 students gathered in front of the aquarium and at 5:00 P.M., and went inside. During the tour of the aquarium, students observed various sea creatures including that are native to Korea. Zeng Mao, an assistant at Dongguk University Service Center for International Students, expressed that his program was very successfl. The Culture Experience program started several years ago. The program was started in 2012, aiming to provide international students the opportunities to visit a variety of tourist and cultural attractions, including amusement park and performance shows. Zeng said that students were mostly satisfied with the program, since it was the first time for most of theparticipants to visit aqarium, including Zeng himself.
International students are new to almost everything in Korea. Students know that they have so many things to experience, but it is not easy to enjoy their leisure tumes. Most of the participants are freshmen, many from China, who are inKorea for the first time. Zeng said that he hopes this Culture Experience program will continue since it is very meaningful and fun for a lot of international students. They entertained themselves by joining various festivals and events, and got to know a bit more about Korean culture. Zeng, expects to visit performance shows next semester. The Culture Experience program provides international students unique opportunities to experience Korean and helps students enjoy living in Korea, and become a 'dweller' from a 'resident'.
