Donghang Students have physically occupied the office of the school’s president Kim Hee-ok for one week. It seems that disputes over restructuring plan will not be settled for the moment.

Students group, named Donghang which means protect our study, insisted that school tries to abolish some departments like Creative Writing, North Korea Studies, ethics, culture and literature only by the rates of graduates’ employment rates. Some students of Donghang shaved their heads to protest school’s exclusive decision, merging and abolishing 11 departments.

However, school expressed their concerns over this protest and insisted that the plan was determined through in-depth discussion. They posted a paper to blame upon student’s physical occupation and listed the date of public hearing that was to listen to students’ opinion. School announced the official restructuring plan during the protest of Donghang students.

Disputes over restructuring plan with school and students will not be settled soon as Donghang students will continue their protests until their demands are met. It remains to be seen whether official restructuring plan will satisfy all Dongguk member’s demands.
