Before starting my monitoring, I would like to express my thanks to my friend who gave me the honor to monitor The Dongguk Post. I think that university English magazines should give crucial view points on various social issues for the readers and give opportunity for readers to share their experiences with one another. With this in mind, the Post gives brilliant approaches on some aspects; however, there are unfulfilled aspects in the magazine. The article entitled "Sports but No freedom of Speech" gave me a new idea about 2008 Beijing Olympics. I was only concentrating on watching the games and caring about who wins, but the article was a big surprise for me. It referred to the China's freedom of speech. Therefore, it made me think.But the article entitled "DU Hit by Hoax" didn't tell me enough. Actually, I had much interest about Sin Jung-Ah, who fabricated her Ph.D. degree. I want to know the opinions of the Dongguk Univ. students who attended Shin Jung-ah's class. Also, I couldn't find any new approach and analysis of why she fabricated her degree and what should students or the university do. It was just a superficial explanation. Two pages are not enough to examine this matter, so I think more analysis is needed. The Cover story entitled "They did something this summer" was also eye-catching. When I read it, I envied many students because although I also had some great experiences this summer, many university students had other great experiences that I wasn't able to do during the vacation. Therefore, I think sharing other students' experiences is very useful and helpful. Hence, I hope the Post will continue with articles like this so that people can share their experiences.The article on DSLR was also very interesting to me, as I really wanted to buy a new DSLR. Therefore, as a future consumer, this article was truly helpful. Also, Click on Job "Chocolatier" was interesting. Considering such matters, I thought that it would be wonderful for the Post to provide articles that introduce new trends an give job information to university students. It would be a great help for students like me. It was very difficult for me to read the articles on colorful pages. The articles look good, but the colors annoy the reader's concentration. The editors should think about this matter. And at the last page, there was a translation about the Cover Story, "What did you do this summer." However the problem was that the translation was too rigid. If this page's intention was to introduce this month's Post, it should have been written in more softer and reader-friendly words. As I was reading the Post, I felt that it really tries to communicate with students. Presently, universities don't communicate with one another. Since students are so diverse in universities, they have a very strong sense of individualism and won't communicate with others except when it is necessary. But I hope the Post will help with these kinds of problem through communicating with readers so that they can share their experiences with others.
