In May 2010 DU Museum began an annual event called ‘This Month’s Cultural Property’. Every month DU Museum will exhibit cultural property which hasn't previously been viewed by the public. The theme of this month’s cultural property is related to Buddha. These cultural properties can also be viewed by the public as well as students of DU. This month was Buddha's birthday so the museum decided to open a display called the ‘Gilt Bronze Standing Buddha of Birth’. This statue’s right hand points at the earth and his left hand the sky, which means Cheonji (heaven and earth, the universe). He also has a childlike face, a plumb body and only wears trousers, which confirms the statue is a birth statue. This statue also means Shakamoni Buddha who said ‘I am the only one in the whole world’.
Lee Heon-Dong, a student in the Department of Business said, “This kind of annual event is meaningful because our University is a Buddhist University. I also think this is a good chance to learn about Buddha so I recommend people to visit the DU museum.”
