On February 26, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced that Dongguk has been selected to establish a Pharmacy School on the Medicine & Bio Technology campus in Ilsan.  According to the announcement, at the start of next year Dongguk is permitted to draw in 20 students out of the one hundred which were admitted to the Gyeonggi-do province campus.

With the establishment of a new College of Pharmacy, Dongguk is expected to win fame as a specialized campus for the BIO researching medical science including Oriental medicine.  Another factor which will help with Dongguk’s popularity will be the synergy between the College of Pharmacy and the medical-cluster in Go-yeong city which has been pushed forward with the help of the Gyeonggi-do province and Go-yang city.

At present, there are as many as 1000 sickbeds and rooms in the Medical & Oriental hospitals in affiliation with Dongguk in Ilsan where classes of Medicine, Nursing and Oriental medicine are offered.

Dongguk has been known for concentrating all its efforts to attain qualified teachers and to improve the infrastructure of the campus for opening a College of Pharmacy.  As the college has already lined up 14 teachers in full service, it is arranged to increase the number of full-time teachers to 20 by 2013 and 30, ultimately.  Also, finances amounting to 94.2 billion won is going to be put into establishing the Pharmaceutical building of 9,997.5m²size.

“The Medicine & Bio Technology campus at Ilsan will play an important role in building up the medical-cluster in Go-yang city that Dongguk is preparing along with the Gyeonggi-do province and Go-yang city,” said Lee Young-min, the director of Strategic Planning & Budgeting at DU.

“We are optimistic that our BIO campus grows to be the medical hub of the world, and we will keep making preparations for the College of Pharmacy while exerting ourselves to secure both a high-tech educational environment and competent researchers.”
