Dongguk University (DU) announced that it will establish two foreign research institutions on campus.
One is Institute of Microelectronics Technology, Russia Academy of Science (IMT-RAS). It has highest reputation in “Graphene,” which is a Nano material. Nowadays, the Graphene is studied in all the countries with keen interest. And the other one is California Nano System Institute (CNSI). It is also a global research center, well known for its Nano fields.
At DU, there is a Quantum functional Semiconductor Research Center (QRSC). The head of the center is Kang Tae-won, a professor of physics. The researchers in the Center published around 500 treatises last year and it also possesses about 30 patents so far.
On July 1st, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) selected prof. Kang’s research project as a winner in the field of Studying Information Technology (IT) and Nano Technology (NT) along with IMT-RAS and CNSI. MEST also planned to give the project 4.5billion won for 6 years.
Consequently, QRSC will collaborate in IT and NT. It is expected that they can cooperate actively, exchanging scientific knowledge together. IMT-RAS and CNSI also promised to provide facilities and about 4.2 million dollar won. The joint research center will be founded at DU in 2010.
