The famous sex education lecturer, Gu Sungae, visited Dongguk University (DU) to advise students and faculty on how to prevent sexual harassment on campus. On November 2nd, seats at the 90th anniversary Fine Arts Theater were filled with students and faculty members interested in the lecture. During the two-hour lecture, Gu Sungae answered a couple of prepared questions from the students. The questions ranged from how she became a sexual educator to her opinion on the social advantages of sexual education. She also gave an emotional account of her painful childhood experience of being raped by a guy in her neighborhood. In her lecture, she emphasized how dangerous the distorted sexual culture is and how to cope with it.
Aside from pointing out the inadequacies of sex education, she gave students several tips about maintaining women’s health such as how to prevent venereal diseases, and information about the differences between male and female hormones. Then she gave advice on how to prevent sexual abuse while dating, and how female students can cope with sexual crimes after they happen. For faculty members, she suggested an appropriate way of sex education for their children. This lecture was held under the joint auspices of Student Welfare, Women's Career Development Center, Gender Equality Counsel Center, General Affairs, and Academic Affairs.
