On November 7, 2007 Um Ki-Young, the anchorman of MBC's news program Newsdesk, visited Dongguk University to give a speech at the 20th Anniversary Ceremony for the College of Social Science. The topic of his speech was, "Media World Viewed by Um Ki-Young". The lecture took more than two hours and piqued students' interest and passion. During the speech, Um reflected on how media watchers should communicate with the media. He commented on how university students should spend their college life. He also stated that after graduating university, we should practice Nobless Oblige to people who are in need of help.
One of the students who listened to his speech said that he was very inspired by the fact that Um reads 13 newspapers every day. Now the student wants to pay more attention to what is going on in our society.
